Kathy Nelson
Front of House Manager
Kathy was born in Birmingham, England and grew up in London. She arrived in sunny Naples in 2013 and immediately got a job as an usher at Artis-Naples. She quickly progressed to Supervisor and Assistant Manager in Front of House, a role that she says made her appreciate live theatre and good music. In the UK Kathy studied Psychology and Law and completed a year at Drama School. Her first job was working for BBC Radio, where she learned the importance of accurate timing and aways checking your tapes! Eventually, she moved on to television and for the next 25 years she worked between BBC and commercial television, starting out as a researcher and progressing to location director and eventually, a documentary producer working with film crews all over the world, including an extended period working in the Soviet Union, helped somewhat by a crash course in Russian! Kathy had four very exciting years chasing Millionaires around the world, for a documentary series. She also teamed up with others to produce three 27-hour Telethons, working in studios twice the size of football fields and successfully raising many millions of pounds for charity. She admits that the Telethons taught her how to think on her feet! An interesting career change in 2005 saw Kathy taking on a new challenge to become a criminal and family court magistrate. A fascinating and memorable time which gave her plenty of opportunity to work on her conflict management skills! Excited to be joining this amazing and talented group at Gulfshore Playhouse, Kathy says she’s looking forward to working with the usher team and expanding the FOH department.
