GULFSHORE PLAYHOUSE SEEKS DIRECTOR OF EDUCATION

Gulfshore Playhouse, a mission-driven, professional theatre company located in Naples, Florida, is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as Director of Education. 

Gulfshore Playhouse offers a diverse season of straight plays and musicals ranging from venerated classics and Broadway hits to contemporary works and world premieres. The Playhouse is passionately committed to producing high-quality, professional theatre which exceeds the expectations of the cultured residents and visitors of Naples, FL, many of whom are regular theatre patrons in New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C. 

Gulfshore Playhouse recently opened the Baker Theatre and Education Center, a state-of-the-art facility, featuring a 368-seat Broadway-sized mainstage, a 125-seat flexible space, rehearsal studios, classrooms, a gorgeous lobby and lobby bar open to the public, and rental space.  In 2022, Gulfshore Playhouse became nationally recognized as the 77th member of the League of Resident Theatres (LORT). This is an extraordinarily exciting time for the Playhouse, which is experiencing unprecedented growth, and the Director of Education  will have the opportunity to participate in sales, growing audiences, and coordinating daily business affairs.

POSITION SUMMARY

The Director of Education is responsible for leading and advancing all educational initiatives at Gulfshore Playhouse, ensuring alignment with the organization’s artistic vision and strategic goals. Reporting to the CEO & Producing Artistic Director, this role oversees the development, execution, and evaluation of a comprehensive portfolio of education programs, including in-school residencies, conservatory training, student matinees, community engagement activities, and professional development offerings. The Director provides visionary leadership to the Education Team, cultivates school and community partnerships, manages budgets and program growth, and upholds Gulfshore Playhouse’s commitment to excellence, creativity, and artistic integrity. This position plays a key role in fostering meaningful arts experiences that inspire, educate, and engage students and audiences of all ages across the region.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

These duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  1. To design and implement innovative educational opportunities and programming that align with Playhouse’s overall mission, vision and strategic plan.
  2. Cultivating partnerships and relationships within the community including schools, arts institutions, and other community organizations with the goal of developing new and interesting educational programming that supports the overall mission and vision of the Playhouse.
  3. Representing Gulfshore Playhouse in the greater educational and arts community.
  4. Must be able to direct plays and musicals for the Conservatory, ensuring high-quality, educationally sound productions that align with Gulfshore Playhouse standards.
  5. Finding innovative ways to raise awareness and increase demand for educational products.
  6. Coordinating the creation of print and social media materials with the Chief Marketing Officer and marketing team.
  7. Creating curriculum, supporting teaching artists in curriculum development, and teaching/directing as appropriate for ThinkTheatre residencies, Conservatory classes, and ArtReach programs.
  8. Organizing and managing Student Matinees, Student VIP Experiences, and field trips, including the creation of study guides and lobby displays in collaboration with the marketing and artistic teams.
  9. Curating, planning, scheduling and budgeting of ThinkTheatre, the Conservatory, and ArtReach programs.
  10. Identifying and training new staff members and teaching artists.
  11. Supporting the writing of grant applications when appropriate.
  12. Attend all staff meetings and other meetings as required.
  13. Work any events as may be required by employer, including but not limited to opening night celebrations and the annual gala fundraiser.
  14. Provide services in a manner in accordance with the guidelines contained within Employer’s employee manual and style guide.
  15. Rendering such other services as may reasonably be required by Employer and as are customarily furnished by a Director of Education at a first-class professional theatrical organization in the United States.
  16. Any other duties as assigned.

  • Salary commensurate with experience
