Behind the Scenes of A Christmas Carol : Nearly a Year in the Making
A new adaptation by Founder / CEO Kristen Coury brings Dickens’ timeless holiday story to life on the Moran Mainstage November 17 through December 24.
Long before the first audience takes its seat, a production like A Christmas Carol has already been months in the making. At Gulfshore Playhouse, the creative journey for this brand-new adaptation has been underway for nearly a year, with an extraordinary team of designers, craftspeople and professional artisans working behind the scenes to bring Charles Dickens’ beloved holiday story to life.
A new behind-the-scenes video offers a glimpse into that work, showcasing the artistry, ingenuity and countless hours of craftsmanship that go into creating a production of this scale. From building and painting scenery to stitching costumes, curating props and bringing the world of Victorian London to life, the video celebrates the talented team working behind the scenes at Gulfshore Playhouse.
The production features an all-star creative team, including Set Designer Robert Mark Morgan, Costume Designer Lisa Zinni and composer Lindsay Jones, who has created an original score and additional music for the production. Their work, alongside that of the professional artisans Gulfshore Playhouse, is transforming the Moran Mainstage into an immersive theatrical experience, complete with a giant turntable that will rotate the set throughout the performance.
At the helm is Gulfshore Playhouse Founder, CEO and Producing Artistic Director Kristen Coury, who both wrote the new adaptation and is directing the production. Her vision brings a fresh perspective to Dickens’ timeless story of redemption, generosity and the spirit of the holidays.
“We have been working toward this production for nearly a year, and it has been incredible to see the vision take shape through the work of so many talented people,” said Kristen. “Every detail matters, from the scenery and costumes to the music and the props. We cannot wait to share what this team has created with Southwest Florida.”
As the only fully professional LORT theatre company in Naples, Gulfshore Playhouse brings together exceptional artists and artisans from New York and across the country to create extraordinary theatre right here in Southwest Florida. A Christmas Carol reflects that collective effort, with every department contributing to a production designed to make the season memorable for audiences of all ages.
This holiday season, Gulfshore Playhouse invites Naples to make A Christmas Carol part of its family tradition. Opening November 17 and running through Christmas Eve, this new production is a gift from Gulfshore Playhouse to Southwest Florida, offering audiences an opportunity to gather, celebrate the season and experience the magic of live theatre together.
