GULFSHORE PLAYHOUSE SEEKS ASSISTANT COSTUME SHOP MANAGER

Gulfshore Playhouse, a mission-driven, professional theatre company located in Naples, Florida,
is seeking a dynamic, detail-oriented and organized individual to serve as Assistant Costume
Shop Manager.


Gulfshore Playhouse offers a diverse season of straight plays and musicals ranging from
venerated classics and Broadway hits to contemporary works and world premieres. Gulfshore
Playhouse is passionately committed to producing high-quality, professional theatre which
exceeds the expectations of the cultured residents and visitors of Naples, FL, many of whom are
regular theatre patrons in New York, Chicago, Boston, Philadelphia, and Washington, D.C.
Gulfshore Playhouse will be opening the Baker Theatre and Education Center, a state-of-the-art
facility, featuring a 350-seat mainstage with a Broadway-sized stage, a 125-seat flexible space,
rehearsal studios, classrooms, and rental space in October of 2024. In 2022, Gulfshore
Playhouse became nationally recognized as the 77th member of the League of Resident Theatres
(LORT). This is an extraordinarily exciting time for the Gulfshore Playhouse, which is
experiencing unprecedented growth in a collaborative and creative community.


Status: Full-time, year-round position, Overtime Exempt
Start Date: August 1, 2024


The Assistant Costume Shop Manager will assist the Costume Shop Manager in overseeing the
day to day operations of the Costume Shop. They will assist in the construction, pulling, renting,
borrowing and fitting of costumes according to the Costume Design. Additionally, they will
assist in cleaning, organizing, and storing costume pieces following the strike of each production.
They will also provide any necessary training to seasonal staff and foster and maintain a safe and
healthy working environment in the shop.


The ideal individual will have a strong drive to provide high-quality work, the ability to exercise
good judgment in a variety of situations, strong written and verbal communication,
organizational skills, and the ability to work as part of the team. Gulfshore Playhouse values hard

work extended hours on occasion when necessary to meet goals. Some weekend and evening hours are required including attendance at performances, special events, and/or meetings that
may happen outside normal scheduled hours.


Skills:
● Proficiency in costume construction and alteration techniques
● Proficiency in draping and pattern making.
● Knowledge of costume crafts, millinery, fabric dying preferred
● Ability to supervise costume shop staff and delegate assignments and responsibilities
based on goals set out by costume shop manager
● Ability to teach any necessary skills and duties to new hires as well as seasonal staff
● Strong organizational skills and ability to help maintain an inventory of costume shop
equipment as well as an inventory of costume storage
● Basic knowledge of purchasing and accounting
● Creative problem-solving
● Ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing
● Ability to manage time and productivity effectively
● Ability to multitask and achieve tight deadlines

Duties:
● Assist Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer to oversee the creation or
acquisition, fitting and alteration of all costume elements as specified by Costume
Designer, director, and choreographer within time frame and budget
● Assist Costume Shop Manager in the creation and maintenance of Costume Guide Book
and all paperwork needed for costume shop and wardrobe department including, but not
limited to: measurement cheat sheet, build lists, fitting notes, and piece lists/dressing lists
for all productions.
● Read and analyze scripts and work with Costume Shop Manager to create scene
breakdown to aid in costume tracking and anticipating quick change issues.
● Assist Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer in scheduling and managing
fittings including setting up fitting room and taking/distributing fitting notes.
● Oversee fulfilling rehearsal requests and supplying rehearsal costume pieces.
● Coordinate the acquisition, transportation, maintenance and restoration of all rental
inventory
● Assist CSM to manage purchase, tracking and returns of all purchased costume elements.
● Help to anticipate needs of the Costume Designer and assist in coordinating
transportation for meals, grocery shopping, and production shopping.
● Assist Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer to track status and location of each
costume element, from initial receipt, through fitting and alteration, to return after strike.
● Take and organize notes during tech and, along with CSM, communicate notes to shop
team and transport costume elements between theatre, costume shop, and costume
rentals.
● Attend assigned designer run throughs, tech rehearsals and assigned production meetings.
● Participate in end of day shop cleaning and organization projects as needed.
● Take strong lead in tracking shoe requirements for productions and in shoe preparation,
including, but not limited to, shoe memo tracking, shoe labeling, painting, rubbering,
stretching and interior modifications (mole skin, insoles, arch supports).
● Assist Costume Shop Manager and Costume Designer with any requested costume craft
or millinery elements.
● Assist Costume Shop Manager in day to day operations of the Costume Shop
● Attend meetings and rehearsals as assigned by the Costume Shop Manager
● Lead projects assigned by the Costume Shop Manager
● Read all reports and act on any notes given
● Provide assistance in other departments as needed
● Adhere to all safety protocols at all times
● Provide support for special events
● Any other duties as assigned

Qualifications:
● 5 years of experience in the field
● MFA or equivalent work experience
● Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds of equipment
● Ability to stand for long periods of time depending on assignment
● Ability to work in and with proper personal protective equipment
● Ability to safely operate shop equipment and tools

Salary range: $800-$920/wk DOE Overtime Exempt
