Hear It Here First: The World Goes ‘Round Sitzprobe

Watch our cast sing with the band for the very first time

Every musical has a rehearsal the company looks forward to most: the sitzprobe. The name is German for “seated rehearsal.” It’s the first time the actors set aside their scripts and blocking and simply sing with the full band. For weeks the cast has rehearsed with only a piano. At the sitzprobe, the band joins them and the songs are heard at full size for the first time.

Our new video puts you in the room for that first run-through of the Kander and Ebb songbook. You’ll hear Galyana Castillo, Alanna J. Smith, Chessa Metz, Matthew Michael Janisse, and Jacquez D.L. Linder-Long sing with the band, led by Music Director Trevor M. Pierce and Associate Music Director/Conductor Matthew A. Stephens.

Meet the band:

  • Woodwinds: John Yoakum
  • Violin: Erik Berg
  • Bass: JR Erb
  • Percussion: Scott Crawford
  • Keyboard: Matthew A. Stephens

And this band won’t be hidden. For And the World Goes ‘Round, the musicians are on stage in the Struthers Studio as part of the show. With our cabaret-style seating, you’ll be close enough to catch every reed solo and every violin line. It will feel like a night at a downtown supper club.

The World Goes ‘Round, directed by Dann Dunn, is now open and runs through November 22 at Gulfshore Playhouse. Tickets are selling fast, purchase yours today at gulfshoreplayhouse.org or by phone at 239-261-7529.
