So Much Drama

A magical meeting of professional theatre and music for the entire 11th grade of Collier County

Gulfshore Playhouse and the Naples Philharmonic at Artis—Naples first joined forces with the Collier County Public Schools in 2017 to present Starcrossed, an adaptation of Romeo and Juliet, free of charge to the entire 11th grade of Collier County (3000+ students). In fall 2019 Shipwrecked, a new adaptation of Shakespeare’s The Tempest, took the stage.

Due to the onset of COVID-19, the program was postponed until deemed safe to perform. Ready to re-launch, Midsummer was scheduled to be performed in fall of 2022. But due to the impacts of Hurricane Ian, the program was canceled.

This partnership is designed to enhance students’ understanding of Shakespeare’s work while giving them the unique opportunity to witness world-class performances from professional actors and musicians.

So Much Drama 2023: Midsummer

Theseus and Hippolyta, about to marry, are figures from mythology. In the woods outside Theseus’s Athens, two young men and two young women sort themselves out into couples – but not before they form first one love triangle, and then another. Fantastical sequences and romantic desire collide in one of Shakespeare’s most popular plays.
