Broadway Bootcamp prepares students for the bright lights

If you’ve ever imagined yourself onstage amidst the bright lights of Broadway, now is your chance to learn and practice songs and dance routines from some of theater’s most popular shows.

Gulfshore Playhouse, Naples’ premier professional theater, is offering a Broadway Bootcamp this winter/spring. Theater enthusiasts of all ages can hone their performing skills in themed week-long classes.

The Bootcamp kicked off January 11 with “Non-Stop: The Lin-Manuel Miranda Experience,” in which students ages 13-18 learned music and choreography from Miranda’s greatest works.

Their first class was led by choreographer Allison Scott. “Out, out, up, down. Omigosh, we’re nailing it,” Scott said, encouraging the students as they followed her rapid moves.

All classes are held from 5 to 7 p.m. and are limited to nine participants. Tuition is $100 per camp, with a “buy one, get one half-off” deal for a guest and a friend attending the same class.

Classes culminate in showcase performances that are recorded and distributed to the students for sharing with family and friends. “We are playing it safe by having virtual showcases at this time,” Calakos said.
