We’re Doing a Musical!

For those of you who haven’t been paying attention to this fact: we haven’t done a musical in 9 years!  So it’s time.  This year we will be doing a highly-theatrical 10-person version of My Fair Lady.  This means that pretty much everyone except the actors playing Eliza Doolittle and Henry Higgins will be playing, in some cases, up to 8 different characters!  Imagine, if you will, Edwardian London, vaudeville-style, with two pianos and a whole lot of energy!

I was in New York last week for auditions.  What a pleasure it was to spend a few days with our fantastic creative team: Adam Cates, our choreographer, and Jeff Lodin, our musical director, all under the guidance of our powerhouse casting director, Michael Cassara.   To add to the excitement, I was delighted that our Artistic Associate, Broadway’s Jeff Binder, who will be playing Henry Higgins, was able to attend our auditions and read with some of the actors and actresses.

What fun it was to be able to do a “dance call!”  Something we haven’t done in a long time.  Below is our choreographer Adam, and his assistant, Victoria, putting together a little dance amalgamation for the auditioners to do.  Not to mix musicals, but it was like a scene right of A Chorus Line!

This production is sure to be a crowd-pleaser so be sure to get your tickets now at GulfshorePlayhouse.org
