In tight quarters, Gulfshore Playhouse’s plans for new downtown Naples theater advance
As she squeezes behind a cramped stage at Gulfshore Playhouse, Kristen Coury shows one of the biggest reasons she wants to build a new home for her professional theater.
There’s not enough room anywhere — for anything — at the current site, a makeshift theater tucked inside The Norris Center, part of Cambier Park in downtown Naples.
Coury, the playhouse’s founder and producing artistic director, walks through the narrow, shallow stage, explaining how there’s no room for rotating sets. Bigger productions need two or three turntables, and the stage isn’t deep enough for even one, she said.
