“The troupe calls itself Bedlam, which gives you some idea of its ferocious energy, but none at all of its clarity, precision and blissful good sense.“
– Ben Brantley, The New York Times
From Bedlam, the critically acclaimed theatre company, comes an intimate adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s classic
From the critically-acclaimed New York-based theater company comes an artful, searingly bold adaptation of George Bernard Shaw’s tale of Joan of Arc. Recognized in Time Magazine and New York Times’ top critic picks, this intimate stripped-down production captures the epic story of the martyred heroine in her unforgettable quest to restore France to greatness.
From illiterate farm girl to military victor to martyred saint, Joan of Arc’s epic, short life changed the course of history. Guided by the voices of saints, Joan becomes a formidable leader whose popularity and influence turn her into a threat that must be eliminated. Four actors will play all 24 characters in Bedlam’s signature style which minimizes set, props, and costumes in order to lift language and acting. Saint Joan has been performed at dozens of venues across the country including New Jersey’s McCarter Theatre, DC’s Folger Theatre, and most recently the Alabama Shakespeare Festival.
If you enjoyed Gulfshore Playhouse’s recent productions of An Iliad, My Fair Lady, The Price, or The Merchant of Venice, you should not miss this exceptional theatrical re-telling.
