Welcome to Gulfshore Playhouse Education! Formerly known as the Theatre Education Project, Gulfshore Playhouse Education has undergone some fantastic transformations over the past season, and I’d like to thank you, our community, for playing such a supportive and transformative role. From the pilot year of our restructured in-school residency program, ThinkTheatre, to several brand new STAR (Student Theatre Artist in Residence) after-school programs, to a major expansion of our STAR Summer Camps, it’s been a wonderful whirlwind of a year!
We at Gulfshore Playhouse are passionate about bringing unique educational opportunities to people from all over our diverse community here in Southwest Florida. Our programs are far-reaching, touching the lives of children and adults alike from all walks of life throughout Lee and Collier Counties.
Deserving students and educators in underserved Title I schools benefit from our ThinkTheatre program, generously funded for the 2014-2015 academic year by the Suncoast Credit Union Foundation. ThinkTheatre uses the art of theatre to teach core curriculum content to Florida’s rigorous education standards, engaging students with the material they need to learn to grow academically. ThinkTheatre also provides a once-in-a-lifetime theatre arts experience that allows children to grow and blossom as creative individuals.
Dedicated young actors and beginning performers have the chance to become Student Theatre Artists in Residence with Gulfshore Playhouse through STAR Academy, our after-school classes and programs. STAR Academy enriches the lives of children in our community through high-quality theatrical training, and gives rising STARs a place to shine! In the summer time, Gulfshore Playhouse Education offers STAR Summer Camps, which gives our students of all ages the chance to take the spotlight on our stage and perform in high-quality showcases and children’s theatre productions.
At Gulfshore Playhouse, we know that the arts are not optional, but crucial to education. With funding being continually decreased for the arts in our educational systems, so many schools and families don’t know where to turn for the arts opportunities they so desperately want and need. With your help, Gulfshore Playhouse Education can continue to serve our community with these vital theatre education programs! Won’t you help a child experience the arts today?
