Today is Gulfshore Playhouse Day!!

The Board of Collier County Commissioners, sponsored by Commissioner Georgia Hiller, have proclaimed May 24, 2011 as Gulfshore Playhouse Day!! Upon acceptance, Founder Kristen Coury expressed her gratitude to the Commissioners and the Community for embracing Gulfshore Playhouse. She noted the Playhouse has doubled its ticket sales twice in two years and is proud to help serve as an economic driver in the County, to be able to produce a full season of high-quality professional theatre at affordable prices, and to have more than 100 educational workshops in Collier County Schools. Commissioner Donna Fiala noted that she is a season ticket holder and hoped everyone present was as well!

The full proclamation is below.

P R O C L A M A T I O N

4/9/11 Kristen Coury ends her season on a high note as the production captures perfectly the droll rhythms of the snobby British upper class. This is Noel Coward as Noel Coward was meant to be performed - funny, dry, arch and bravely unafraid of its own intelligence.

3/7/11 "Very rarely - perhaps on only a few occasions in a lifetime - there is a theatrical experience so shattering, so full of pain, grief and love, that one feels one will be changed by it. The Gulfshore Playhouse production of "A View from the Bridge" is [one such experience]. Right here in Naples, an opportunity to be moved in the theater you will seldom get. Be prepared for an intense experience, but do not miss it." Bill O'Neill, Collier Citizen Review of "A View from the Bridge"
3/7/11 "The actors ... brought a room full of socialites and Neapolitan glitterati to an absolute hush. You could hear the scuff of shoes across the stage and even the swish of fabric in a dress. A single cough from the audience sounded like thunder. That's what happens when you combine high-quality acting and directing with a superb script. 'Bridge' burns with quiet intensity. The production lifts Miller's spartan prose into burning, passionate life." Chris Silk, NaplesNews.com Review of "A View from the Bridge"

United Arts Council of Collier County names 5 regional "stars" to receive the prestigious STAR IN THE ARTS award at their annual ceremony on March 4, 2011. Our very own Founder and Producing Artistic Director Kristen Coury tops the list!
11/12/10 Right up front, there is a play I urge you to go see. It may be one of the best plays you will catch all season. It is that warm, rich, confronting and brilliantly performed.

11/12/10 The acting is sharp and subtle, and Kristen Coury's direction is warm and insightful. And, yes, there are many moments of humor, beauty and inspiration scattered throughout.

It's heartbreaking to watch Morrie disintegrate from scene to scene. Some of the best scenes come when the music and dialogue stop and Morrie tries to do something simple like forking egg salad into his mouth. Ten long seconds pass, then 20 - all while Albom watches on helplessly. They're heartbreaking scenes, beautifully acted and directed.
