Gulfshore Playhouse’s unique theatre education programs serve Southwest Florida through a wide variety of opportunities for children, teens, and adults alike, providing people from our diverse community accessibility to the art of theatre.

ABOUT GULFSHORE PLAYHOUSE EDUCATION

Gulfshore Playhouse Education serves children through adults. It has four components: ThinkTheatre in-school residencies, Star Academy after school and summer programs, the Student Matinee Series, in which school students have the opportunity to see professional theatre and meet the creative teams, and The Synergy Series, which deepens the experience of our shows through free opportunities such as Script club, pre-show conversations, panel discussions, blogs, lobby displays and more.

This year, Gulfshore Playhouse is collaborating with The Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida and with Naples Philharmonic to offer special student programs. In Flight, our collaboration with the Holocaust Museum of Southwest Florida, tells the incredible true story of local Holocaust survivor Sabine van Dam and is available to schools starting in October.

On April 26 and 27, the world’s most famous love story, Romeo and Juliet, finds new life in a magical meeting of theatre and music. World-class actors and musicians from Gulfshore Playhouse and the Naples Philharmonic will tell this epic fable of feuding families and star-crossed lovers in this special performance in Starcrossed.

ThinkTheatre reaches more than 1000 students annually in Collier and Lee counties. Gulfshore Playhouse staff works with our partner teachers to develop cross-curricular programs that not only broaden the students’ understanding of content, but also lead them to develop secondary skills that are unique to theatre training: the confidence to speak in front of a group and to engage with peers, the ability to work as a team to solve problems, and the skill to examine situations from different angles and perspectives.

Star Academy offers after school and summer programs for all ages that allow participants to deeply explore acting, movement, voice, dance, storytelling, and playwriting.

The Student Matinee Series allow middle and high school audiences to experience world class professional theatre. All student matinees include comprehensive study guides and an offer for a teaching artist to visit the school and conduct a workshop about the production before the students arrive. On the day of the performance, school groups are invited to stay for a talkback with the actors.

As Gulfshore Playhouse spreads it wings and soars into our beautiful new building, we anticipate our education program not only expanding to reach a greater audience, but deepening as we continue to create links and connections between our visiting artists and our community.
